Comments Off on Shanghai-Style Noodles

  • 8 oz whole wheat spaghetti ( I used Brown Rice Noodles)
  • 5 crowns broccoli, florets only
  • 1 juice from an orange
  • 2 tbsp low sodium Tamari sauce
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 3/4 lb beef sirloin steak (Measure 3 ozs per person)
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 lb snow peas
  • 1 tomato sliced
  • 1 tsp. Five Spice Powder
  • 2 Scallions
Step One:  Bring a pot of water to boil, add Spaghetti, reduce heat to medium-high and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent noodles from sticking.  Add Broccoli and cook for 5 more minutes.  Drain and transfer to a large bowl.  Cover loosely to keep warm and set aside.
 Step Two:  In a small bowl, whisk orange zest, orange juice, tamara sauce, pepper flakes and ginger; set aside.  
Step Three:  In a large non-stick skillet, heat oil on medium for 1 minute.  Add beef and cook, turning occasionally, for 2 minutes.  Add garlic and saute stirring occasionally, for 2 minutes.  Add five spice powder, peas, orange juice mixture and tomatoes, stir to coat.  Saute for 3 minutes, until beef is cooked through.  
Step Four:  Add beef mixture to spaghetti mixture and toss to combine.  Divide among serving plates.  Garnish with scallions and red pepper flakes if desired.
